Lots going on right now since the Grands. Team stuff going good, and word out from ABA guys is BMX Racing is going to get more TV shows for 2010, which is great news.

This week I ran into Free Style 80's legend Eddie Fiola at Starbucks, which was cool. I knew Eddie lived in the same town as me, but it's the first time I have actually seen him around. He said he still rides and is pretty busy being a TV Stunt man.

Check out the new Stay Strong site. :: staystrong.co.uk :: Marco's doing a great job and has got some great things planned for 2010 all in support of Stephen.

Congrats to my buddy and Free Agent Euro guy, Sebastian Kartfjord, for winning the big International in St Etienne France last weekend. 1800 riders showed up. Pretty cool to see numbers are up in Europe.

ABA Grands

Well, the Grands are over and as expected it was an epic battle for the Pro Title. I think everyone can agree it was one of the closest in ABA History. Maris, Kyle and Randy were all still in contention going into the last main, and even more a trip they lined up in all 3 mains next to each other on the gate.

Kyle did all he could, not only winning Friday's pre race but winning the Grands as well, but it was still not enough, as if Randy or Maris was 2nd behind him on the day they would become Champion. And that's what happened. Randy made an inside pass on Maris exiting turn 1 in the last main for 2nd, which was enough for the title. Maris chased hard but could not quite get him back down the last straight. A Big congrats to Randy and Greg Hill at GHP. As for Kyle and Maris, they both get a lot of respect in my book for how well they handled it. Not just on missing out, but rising to the occasion and riding so good for such a big stressful weekend for all of them.

I think they both walked away from the Grands with the desire to chase the ABA title again in the future.

Our guy, Connor Fields, rode super good, winning the NAG 5 challenge Friday, Open at the Grands and just missing out on class to Corben Sharrah, who won the main and the Am title in the process. So, congrats to him.

In all a great weekend and now so much needed time off for everyone I'm thinking.

ODI Releases Stay Strong Limited Edition Lock-On Grips

Press release from ODI

Riverside, CA - More than a decade ago, the premium British import was a rising BMX rider named Stephen Murray. The Lionhearted racer had already earned six UK National Championships by age 16. In the states, he took to Dirt Jumping and Freestyle becoming a three-time back to back X-Games and Gravity Games Gold Medalist.

Then, in June of 2007, a double back flip ended with a crushed and shattered vertebrae, Stephen was paralyzed from the shoulders down.

ODI is now honoring Stephen with a Special Edition of the Ruffian Lock-On BMX grip. Subtle etched logo's brand the yellow and black collars. A "Stay Strong" sticker is included to help rep the cause on your bike or helmet.

By purchasing this product you are helping to support Stephen and his family on their road to recovery and you are showing love to a fallen soldier and BMX brother. Available at finer dealers everywhere.

ABA Grands Preview

Well, as most of you know, it's the ABA Grands this weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma. For sure a different perspective for me going to Oklahoma this year. Not racing myself and 2 of our guys on the Team, Maris and Kyle, with a shot at the title, along with Randy.

We're all looking forward to it. What I think is cool about this year's title battle is that the 3 guys going for the title have a lot of respect for each other. It's going to be a good race.

Free Agent are sponsoring the Pit Bike Race, so directly after the race Friday we will be selling off the 12 Lil Homie Free Agent Pit bikes super cheap. Come by the Free Agent pit and grab a cool Xmas present for one of the kids.

Don't forget to vote for Maris for Latvian Sports Personality of the year. Links and info below. Be cool if he can win it 2 years in a row!!

Eddy King

THE 80's LEGEND EDDY KING TEAMS UP WITH STAY STRONG FOR THE 2009 ABA GRANDS COMEBACK!

That's right folks you read it correctly Eddy King the Diamondback legend of BMX's glorious 80's era is now making a comeback to racing at this years ABA Grands in Tulsa, OK this month. Look out for Eddy in the 41 and over Expert class dressed head to toe in the yellow and black colours of STAY STRONG.

Eddy made the trip out to Riverside, CA this past weekend with Free Agent TM Dale Holmes to meet Stephen Murray at his home and personally collect his Jersey for his special comeback race.

Eddy has been following Stephen's progress online since his accident back in June 2007 and has been inspired by his positive outlook on life since becoming paralyzed from the shoulders down. Eddy contacted us saying he wanted to represent Stephen and his cause and promote his brand STAY STRONG and said he'd be honoured to race in his jersey. The feeling was mutual as Stephen was stoked to say the least so the meeting was set up. The jersey's had been freshly delivered from Hot Shoppe that morning. We'd like to thank Dave Marietti for the co-sponsorship on this project. STAY STRONG will be selling these replica jersey's very soon so watch this space for more details over the next couple weeks on where to order yours!

It's good to see BMX legends from 3 decades all together in one photo promoting the same cause. The guys chatted and laughed about the old days and Eddy's visit definitely gave Stephen a much needed lift and the smile on his face say's it all.

Eddy King is a true gent and we at STAY STRONG are proud he will be wearing our colours for his much anticipated comeback to BMX racing.

Good luck in Tulsa Eddy and thank you again from STAY STRONG and Stephen Murray.

JERSEY ORDERING INFO WILL BE POSTED VERY SHORTLY, THANK YOU

What's the Latest

This week we had a bunch of meetings down at Free Agent, where we are working on all kinds of new stuff for 2010, I'm pretty excited. As you have probably read by now, we're making a Free Agent / Stay Strong Frame set to support Stephen Murray and his brand Stay Strong, which is now headed by Marco Dellisola.

Marco has got lots in the works, which includes a World Stay Strong Team with some heavy hitters about to be announced, alongside one of the best co-sponsored Team line up, not just in racing but Free Style, all in support of Stephen and Stay Strong clothing!

Other stuff going on. I got the call back from the ABA to do more Voice Overs for the Versus BMX TV show, along with, Craig Reynolds, so I'm stoked about that. It's looking like racing is going to get even more TV Time for 2010 thanks to ABA, and along with the 2012 build up to the London Olympics hopefully BMX can get back on track and everyone can start driving Porsches and moving back into beach houses with swimming pools! ha ha

Stephen Murray Limited Edition Frame

FREE AGENT BICYCLES TEAM UP WITH STAY STRONG TO SUPPORT STEPHEN MURRAY WITH A LTD EDITION FRAMESET!

Free Agent the fastest brand in BMX racing has shown it's support to injured UK rider Stephen Murray by collaborating with his brand STAY STRONG on an exclusive run of 200 Limited Edition Framesets.

Free Agent Bicycles as well as developing the framesets for release in early 2010, have generously donated a good royalty for every unit sold throughout the World to this great cause. World Free Agent Team Manager Dale Holmes has said "We are proud to be able to support our friend with this great offering through our brand, and Free Agent is excited to be linked with STAY STRONG on this project".

This frameset has been ridden to more PRO Podium finishes across the World in 2009 than any other brand in BMX racing. STAY STRONG have put their twist on graphics and colour to this already proven winning race frame!

Simple bold branding using FREE AGENT in the STAY STRONG font links the brands with overlayed logos and LTD ED graphics. Downtube logo placement is closer to the seat tube to look a bit more core / dirt . And the blue band on the seat tube is symbolic to the charity bracelet worn by fans and riders across the globe.

If you are looking for a new frameset for 2010 that is proven on the track and want to support a fallen soldier and BMX brother then the Free Agent / STAY STRONG frameset is for you!

100 Pro Limo : 50 Limo Cruiser and 50 Expert framesets are all that are being made available so pre-ordering with your FA dealer or distributor is your way to guarantee you will get to ride one of these framesets in 2010. (Note: UK allocation selling out fast.)

Frames will be delivered including headset and forks:

Kyle is finally back healed up and rode super fast getting 2nd both days behind Stumpy who was on it! Maris was 3rd on Sunday with Cristian 4th on Sat. Connor Fields won both days so good weekend for us!

Frejus France Supercross

Last week's trip to France was a bit quick and draining, cramming an European trip into four days, but for sure another great weekend. I always liked going to the South of France and this trip was no different. Great weather, good coffee, fresh bread and another good event on the World Cup circuit.

3 Free Agent guys in the final was cool and I had fun doing the live broadcast for Freecaster with Industry Pete!

Congrats to Sam Willoughby on winning both the Elites main and Best Drunk of the Night at the UCI Awards Saturday night. It was great fun to sip on water and watch all the young kids get loose during the presentation!! Myself and Wade Bootes were talking during the night's activities, both realising we were old and boring watching all the chaos go down and not being part of it like in the good old days!! ha ha

Maris ended up winning 'Best Move of the Year' for his come back race at the Worlds, so tapped off a good weekend in all.

Yesterday I went up to LA to do the Voice Overs with Craig Reynolds for the ABA's UCI's Continental TV Show that's broadcast on Versus every Monday afternoon. Super fun doing it with Craig, hopefully it turns out good when it's airs in a few week's time.

Still in non stop mode at the moment. Tomorrow I'm hopping on a plane for France for the last round of the UCI World Cup in Frejus. Check freecaster for your local broadcasting times World Wide and don't forget to log on and email your questions to be read out live during the race

Really looking forward to it. Had fun doing it in Chula Vista and great I got asked to do it again.

I'm sure by now the US race fans have already seen the ABA new TV show that is broadcast Nationwide on Versus every Monday afternoon. ABA/UCI events. Anyway, since my Freecaster debut the guys at ABA have asked me to be co-commentator for the show along with Craig Reynolds. I'm stepping in at show 4 and go into the studio with Craig as soon as I get back from France. Super stoked and a big thanks to Don, BA, Shannon and the ABA guys for giving me this great opportunity; it's really cool being involved and seeing racing from a different side.

Interbike

It's been a busy month and did not stop. After the World Cup at Chula Vista, it was a quick few days home before heading out to Las Vegas for the Bike Show. Pretty hectic 3 days in Vegas. I kept a clear head for the first 2 days and got all the stuff I needed to do at the Show before finally going out the last night for the NORA Cup Awards. Really positive Show for us, and to end it all Maris won Racer of the Year, NORA Cup (Transworld Ride Magazine). So everyone at FA/KHS was super stoked.

Thanks to Keith Mulligan and the Ride guys for a super cool night. Pete Loncarevich presented Maris with his Trophy, always good to see Pete. (I stayed with him back in 93, one of the first times I came out to California.) Super cool guy.

Check your TV listing this Monday as BMX racing hits the screens once again with the ABA Show which they have been filming this year with the UCI/ABA races. The show goes out on Versus around 4.30 pm est 3.30 cst. Looking forward to that.

Got word from Johan at the UCI that he liked my Freecaster performance in the commentary box with Pete Dylewski at Chula Vista and looks like I will be doing the final round in France with Pete as well. Super Stoked about that. Had fun with Pete and think after watching it back I can build on it.

Myself and Maris went over and had a great night out. Jeremy McGrath was inducted into the BMX HOF alongside many others. For me it was great to see Andy Ruffell, UK Legend from the 80s. Had a drink or 2 or 3 with him, Eddy King, the Wildman among so many more. Great night.

Stephen Murray was one of the most influential BMX riders in the world. Now he's one of the most inspirational people in sports today. The BMX community will be coming together on Saturday August 29th at the Alianos Trails in the U.K. for the "Stay Strong" Benefit Jam for Stephen Murray. This place is usually closed off to the public and is on an invite basis only. NBL Prunedale

Last week seemed like no sooner had we got back form Australia it was bags re-packed and a quick turn around up to Prunedale for the last NBL National before the Grands next month. I think everyone was pretty burnt out and tired from the Australia trip (Joey Bradford even came back from Aussie with the swine flu) but still a last chance for the guys to get some points in.

Track had changed a bit from last year, lots of smaller jumps added in that made the last 2 straights pretty busy. The last turn like every year was still loose and broken up and the funny thing was they decided to water and try pack it right before Saturday's mains. After 15 minutes of sitting on the gate waiting for it to dry all the riders on the gate decided to have a roll around to keep loose. As I went round the last turn I told the chief official, 'It's fine let's run it', even though it still looked and felt kind of shady. (I just wanted to race as I was getting bored waiting, as was everyone.)

Anyway, back up to the gate and Masters ran first. I got out good and was winning, only to you know what round the last turn... Yep, slid out and crashed! Pretty funny I guess! Sunday the last turn was no better and I tiptoed round it to win. Lucky Dave Bittner was nice and didn't try a move on me even though he probably could have!

Elite was the Maris/Stumpy show once again as they battled out both days in the mains with Maris taking the wins and Stumpy 2nd both days.

Also watched the X Games on TV this weekend. Seems kind of flat compared to what it used to be. Seems like the Dew Tour is bigger these days.

Maybe it's time like someone said on Vintage to bring back BMX racing to see if it would help. Supercross at Chula Vista would surely look good for TV if they did it right.

Worlds Video

Gorey from Australia sent us this link from Maris' 1/8 final from the Worlds last week. Pretty cool.

UCI Worlds Australia

Back from the Worlds finally. Let me tell you Australia is far no matter where you are traveling from. Good weekend, as usual had its ups and downs. Donny Robinson took the Elites with Sam Willoughby taking the Juniors. Sarah Walker took Elite women with Mariana Pajon taking Junior women. I ended up with a 2nd behind Tommy Opincar and a 1st in Cruiser so a good weekend for me. Everybody's new buddy Marco Dell'isola won his first world title winning 30-34 Cruisers on Sunday so congrats to Marco, he deserved it after working very hard for the last 6 months. The Team ended up winning Team Trophy so it was a pretty good ending to the weekend. Full update in the next few days.

World Championships Australia Bound

Just about packed and ready to board a 15 hour long scorcher to Adelaide, Australia for the UCI World Champs. We leave LA Saturday night and don't get into Adelaide until Monday night, so with connections and time changes it's going to be a long one.

Still, always like the buzz of the Worlds, so I'm looking forward to it. The race will be indoors as it's winter down under. I guess it's going to be a tall start hill and, as Marco keeps telling me, the track's going to be super tech. (Even though they've not built it yet.) Some people always bite on the track layout and design pictures beforehand and stress. It never ends up that way anyway! ha ha

I hear around 3000 riders, then add in the family, officials, fans and so on, it's going to be big.

This week I rode Whitter with Marco, Cristian, Javier, Carnes and Augusto; always fun banter riding with them guys.

Well, we will see who got their tapering right, who's heart rate monitor didn't work, who's pee is the wrong colour, and who's on time with their World's Peak. I guess freecaster.com will be showing the racing live and I'm sure bmxmania.com will have all the updates. I will try to update when I can. Racing starts Friday July 24th and goes all weekend long.

Weekend Update

Good weekend for us race wise. Maris was 1st and 2nd at ABA Utah with Stumpy taking the win on Sunday. Maris' buddy Kristaps Konrads also won A Pro on Saturday and over at the NBL Nashville weekend Cristian won both days in Elite and I got a win on Sunday. Our Florida rider Harry Britt got 3rd in Superclass which was a great result for Harry.

In Europe, Holland's Roy van den Berg won all 3 days at the European Championships finals but the overall went to his teammate Martijn Scherpen. We had both Sebastian Kartjord and FA Denmark's Morton Therkildsen in the Elite mains both days so a great showing from our Euro FA riders.

Other stuff Shaun Palmer made his return to Downhill mountainbiking this weekend at Fontana coming in 2nd. Pretty impressive. Palmer is using MTBing as part of his build up to qualify for a spot on the US Olympic Bordercross team. Not bad for a 40 year old!

Stephen Murray and March Forth

Action sports street-wear company March Forth steps up to the plate to help raise money for the Stay Strong Stephen Murray foundation and remind everyone to Stay Strong and March Forth!

Los Angeles, California - The March Forth Supply Company has collaborated with the Stay Strong for Stephen Murray foundation this month to help raise money for paralyzed BMX super star Stephen Murray. The Limited Edition "March Forth, Stay Strong" for Stephen Murray graphic tee will be issued this week to promote a positive way of life and serve as a reminder to March Forth and Stay Strong! A portion of the proceeds will goto the Stephen Murray foundation.

March Forth Supply Co. started in 2003 as an apparel-driven reminder to focus on your dreams, and move forward with what you are most passionate about in life. "This is a perfect opportunity to help out in the community and industry with our positive message" says owner and founder Wes DeSoto. With offices in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Baltimore, March Forth sponsors athletes in Bmx, Surf, Skate, as well as bands and local artists. Serving as inspiration and a solid cornerstone in the action sports lifestyle.

Helping people find inspiration and motivation can sometimes be a difficult task. Heading into the 2007 Dew Action Sports Tour, former BMX dirt jumping star Stephen Murray's back was against the wall. After setting the action sports world ablaze in 2001 with his gold medal-winning performance at the X-Games, his career lost momentum. As the bills piled up, Murray sought to reverse his fortunes with a huge performance in June 2007, only to suffer a catastrophic accident that left him a quadriplegic. March Forth Supply Company accompanied Stay Strong Apparel at the first Dew Tour BMX event in Chicago on June 26 and 27. This First Dew Tour Event marked 2 years from when Stephen's crash first happend.

Nashville

Time to get back on the road again. This weekend I'm heading out to Nashville, TN for the NBL Nationals. Super long flat first straight. For sure exposes who's pulling and who's not. I remember first seeing pictures of Nashville's first straight back in the 80s in the Magazines when they used to have the Murray World Cup there. I think it was $5000 for 1st in AA Pro, Pro Open and Pro Cruiser, $15,000 for a triple, and in the 80s, a pretty good pay day!

ABA wise they got a race in Salt Lake, Utah this weekend, so I guess it's going to be a good split of riders US based. Over in Europe it's the European Championships in Denmark, so a busy weekend of racing before everyone heads out to the Worlds in 2 weeks in Australia.

Been watching the Tour de France this week. Can Armstrong really come back after 4 years and win it again at 37? He's looking good right now but still a long way to go.

Today's pic Nashville Murray World Cup in the 80s.

Weekend Update

I didn't go up to the ABA Roseville National, but I did follow it on go211.com. Maris and Kristaps drove up on their first solo mission in the States. I think they were looking forward to having a chill relaxing weekend's drive North after flying back in from Europe a few days earlier.

Stumpy continued his winnings ways, winning Saturday's one lap no crap, with Maris in 3rd. Sunday Maris took the win after 3 mains with Stumpy in 2nd. Even with all the travel this week Maris was going fast and for sure Randy is on it right now, which is very impressive after having been on the circuit so long. A lot of guys looking good right now, everyone is getting their peak on for Australia in 3 weeks.

Me, Marco and Marc Willers did quite a bit of riding this week. We had some good sessions at the track. Willers has a dodgy shoulder so decided to skip the last month of racing and focus more towards the Worlds and go in healthy rather than blown out. Myself, it's been nice not travelling and racing and spending some quality time at home for once.
